Complaints at Caucus & Council Meetings of 5/14 and 5/28
PERTH AMBOY – Resident Jane Herron who lives near the intersection of Groom & Neville Street spoke before the Council. Herron complained about the heavy traffic on her street, “There are too many overweight vehicles traveling in that area.” She asked the Council’s help on possibly getting 4-way stop signs or flashing lights to help alleviate the problem in that area.
“That intersection is very dangerous and there have been several close calls of traffic accidents.” (There was one accident involving a school bus.)
Herron came back again to speak at the 5/28/14 Council Meeting. “Nothing was done since the last time I spoke at the previous meeting. School buses, tractor trailers and ambulances are still constantly traveling Groom Street. I can understand the ambulances, but the tractor-trailers are a constant presence. I’ve gone to the Police, the Council and the Mayor. I’m just asking to enforce the laws on the books.”
Garbage was another big issue at the 5/12/14 Caucus Meeting. Heavily traveled Convery Boulevard has had a problem with garbage bags and cans being blown into the streets on windy days. The part of Convery that had the most problems would be the area where the houses are closest to the streets.
Council President Joel Pabon was also concerned about the connector from High Street to Rte. 440 where trucks have been dropping off rocks, especially by Rudyk Park. “As far as the Convery Boulevard (Rte. 35) Garbage has not been picked up and some residents had stickers put on their cans. These residents received no warning letters.”
DPW Director Frank Dann came up to answer the concerns of the Council and residents. He said Sanitation Supervisor Hector Palidura has gone to residents in that area of Convery Boulevard to warn them about disposal of their garbage.
Council President Joel Pabon said, “We need to take a look at what is going on in that particular area around Convery Boulevard.”
Business Administrator Greg Fehrenbach said, “The Sanitation Workers complain about the garbage problems on Convery Boulevard. Palidura documents complaints and will take photos of the garbage that he has seen.”
Councilman Fernando Irizarry commented, “The train station also needs a major cleanup.”
