- PERTH AMBOY – The Cities of Perth and South Amboy along with Staten Island joined forces to kickoff the Celebration of Our Independence with Fireworks on July 2nd. On July 4th, Mayor Wilda Diaz, along with Community Leaders continued the tradition of reading the Declaration of Independence. Perth Amboy is one of the few Municipalities that has a replica of the Liberty Bell at City Hall Circle, High Street. Perth Amboy was once the Capital of New Jersey and our City Hall is the oldest functioning City Hall in the United States. Perth Amboy has been recognized as one of the most ten historic cities in the United States according to Margaret Westfield, Vice Chair of the NJ Historical Commission. *Photo by Katherine Massopust
