Information Regarding Police Incident

PERTH AMBOY – At 22:52 hours, four Perth Amboy Police officers were in the 300 block of Watson Ave. As officers approached a person of interest related to a prior fire-arms incident, he opened fire at our officers. Officers returned fire in response to the threat.

There are no injuries as a result of this incident. The person of interest is in custody. The investigation on going and being conducted by the Middlesex County Prosecutors Office. If anyone has any information about this incident, please contact the Perth Amboy Police Department at 732-442-4400.

“The Perth Amboy Police Department takes the events that occurred in our City over the past week very seriously, as such we continue to take swift appropriate action against crime. Gun violence has no place in our community, as it is my utmost priority and concern to keep our residents safe and secure. As you travel throughout the City in the coming days and weeks, in order to combat this recent violence, you will see an increased police presence of both uniformed and non-uniformed officers deployed in many different neighborhoods. I commend the training, professionalism and work of the Police department as a whole and trust in their ability to continue to protect our City,” said Mayor Wilda Diaz.
