Editorial: Supporting Literacy & Much More

In 1989 First Lady Barbara Bush formed the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy which encourages parents to read to their children *AP

During the Budget Hearings, Library Director Eleni Glykis told the Council about the different programs the library is now offering. My interest was piqued when she talked about the free museum passes available to those holding a library card in good standing. Those passes were sponsored by The Friends of Perth Amboy Free Public Library.

Glykis also talked about the Pop-up libraries where they can bring books to neighborhoods.

What also was interesting is modern technology. People can access information through the Middlesex Library Consortium 24/7. There is so much more than the library offers and the Friends of the Library have brought many authors and had presentations on different topics including the Lizard Guys who taught about certain reptiles and other creatures. Former Library Director Pat Gandy had a long and successful career. We wish the same for Eleni. Our library may be small, but it offers much more than its appearance. Visit the library’s Facebook Page. C.M. & K.M.
