WOODBRIDGE/FORDS – Celebrate the coming summertime with fun, free events for all ages! From role-playing games to knitting to learning about The Beatles the libraries of Woodbridge are the place to be. All library events are open to all. No registration is required for these events.
Come join our new RPG (Role-Playing Game) Meetup at the Fords Branch Library on Saturday, June 2, from 12:00 – 4:00 PM. This is a chance for those who wish to find a way to leave their world behind. Enjoy a day of fun and adventure. No experience necessary, all you need is your imagination and creativity! We will be running a starter quest using a simplified version of the pathfinder system that focuses on player experience and interaction over rules and regulation. Open to all players ages 10 and up. If you are a knitter please join us for WWKIP DAY (World Wide Knit in Public Day) on Saturday, June 9 at the Woodbridge Main Library, from 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Worldwide Knit in Public is unique, in that it’s the largest knitter run event in the world. Each local event is put together by a volunteer or a group of volunteers. Share your time with other knitters! Please bring your chair and a work in progress. Please note that if it rains this event will be moved inside the Main Library.
Woodbridge resident and Beatles Historian Vincent Bruno will discuss “The Beatles: From Liverpool to Abbey Road’ on Thursday, June 14 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the Woodbridge Main Library. This lecture will follow in the footsteps of The Beatles as they embark on their historic journey starting from their early days as a cover band in Liverpool and Hamburg, into the excitement of Beatlemania, including concert performances, and films, thru their creative ground-breaking studio albums (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Peppers) to the formation of Apple Corps and finally to their remarkable final recordings at Abbey Road Studios. Coming full circle, he will then explore the highlights of each individual’s post Beatles work.
In honor of PRIDE month, Garden State Equality will present LGBT 101 Workshop on Monday, June 18 at 6:30 PM at the Woodbridge Main Library. This workshop will provide participants with basic information, terminology, and key concepts around gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, and intersectionality. Participants will learn the challenges faced by LGBT youth in school and community settings and how to be inclusive and affirming of the LGBT community.
Iselin Branch Library 50th Anniversary Celebration
Join us in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Iselin Branch of the Woodbridge Public Library on Tuesday June 19 at 1081 Green Street,Iselin, NJ 08830. The kick-off begins at 1pm with the JFK High School Marching Band, followed at 2pm with Mayor John McCormac cutting the ribbon and welcoming all to the newly renovated Iselin Branch Library. Events schedule throughout the day include Teen Time Crafts at 2:30, a vocal performance by the Manjari School of Performing Arts at 4:00, and Indian Folk and Classical Dance by performers from Arudhra saai Natyashala. At 6:30 a dedication of “Entwined” a photographic installation celebrating the history of cooperation between the Iselin Branch Library and the Woodbridge Garden Club will take place. Evening events include acclaimed novelist Rakesh Satyal talk and book signing followed by a reception with appetizers.
