Press Release 6/9/18

WOODBRIDGE – “Libraries Rock” is the theme of Woodbridge Public Library’s 2018 Adult Summer Reading Program. Discover the many ways that music and sound influence our lives and bring people together.

Registration for “Libraries Rock!” Adult Summer Reading Club begins on June 18, 2018. All participants must be age 18 or over and have a valid Woodbridge Public Library card.  Register for “Libraries Rock!” online @ http://woodbridgelibrary.org/ or visit one of our library locations for a registration packet.

Libraries Rock! will run from June 18 – August 10, 2018. Although Libraries Rock! is the theme, you are free to read anything you like, write reviews, enter to win weekly prizes (plus a Grand Prize at each WPL location) and meet your fellow readers and neighbors at a series of programs at the Main Library.

These music related events are free and open to all.  No library card is required to attend these special events. Also, no registration is required.

Our free music programs at the Woodbridge Main Library will kick off with Rutgers Professor Dr. Matthew Backes presenting the Fiddle in America: A History & Demonstration on June 28, 2018 @ 7:00 PM.  This interactive, high energy session is made possible by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

As we move into July we will rock out to a compilation of popular covers from the ’60s to today by musician Rich Casella during Jamming with the Guitar Den on July 18, 2018 @ 7:00 PM.  Board-certified musical therapist Karly Muzalier, MT-BC of Muzique, LLC will visit the library to highlight the many benefits of Music Therapy on July 19, 2018 @ 7:00 PM.  Professional singer Rhonda Denét will treat us to a musical journey from the era when the “First Lady Of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald graced the stage to when the “Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin ruled the airways with From Jazz from Soul on July 25, 2018 @ 7:00 PM.   Finally, we’ll conclude our exploration of music genres with a fun tribute to Elvis with local Elvis Tribute Artist Paul Daniels’ performance of “Elvis the Concert Years” on August 8, 2018 @ 7:00 PM.

On Friday afternoons the Woodbridge Main Library will also get loud with our special Music Film Festival.  Scheduled films include La La Land, Mamma Mia, Hairspray, and four more exciting films for your viewing pleasure.  These free films will be shown on Fridays @ 2:00 PM in the Main Library’s 1st Floor Meeting Room.

So simply read a book, fill out a slip, drop it in the Libraries Rock! jar, and you may win a prize!  It’s that easy.  Or go online to http://www.woodbridgelibrary.org/and enter your books.

To participate, come into the Main Library or any of our branches any time we’re open.  Ask at the Information Desk for a registration packet, which will tell you everything you need to know about the club.  Or go online to http://www.woodbridgelibrary.org/ and read the information there.  And don’t forget to come to our gala closing event on August 10:  2pm ‘til 4:30pm a Book/CD/DVD Swap complete with light refreshments and a door prize for one lucky attendee!
