THE COMMUNITY VOICE: Letter to the Editor

Election Day 2018

Okay. Get ready for Election Day 2018! This will be fun to watch! In fact, even the dead voters will jump out of their graves. This is where those Democratic and Republican voters will fight to the end. You know, too far from the right or left. Now, here in Perth Amboy there’s three City Council Candidates that have the Mayor’s support. That’s okay, BUT do they have a Master Plan for the city? We want to know.

The Perth Amboy Democratic Party needs a wake-up call. There will be 6 candidates running for City Council. They may split up the Democratic Party.

Yes, it’s still early to talk about the elections, but YOU, the voter better start doing your homework before you go out and vote. I always said voting is a right, but watch who you vote for.

Unfinished City Projects

The City Administration has overlooked Sandy recovery efforts for the once legendary Tennis Courts on Sadowski by putting another 5-month delay on the contact with Hellios Construction for tennis courts construction. Grants the City wishes to request from State Officials have been in place since the devastating effects from the Hurricane. Government funding of 17 million dollars in recovery have been spent since 2013 on restoring scenic Waterfront piers, marinas, sanding, plantings, and walkways. Yet, recreating a key recreational area slowly is put of well into 2019.

The recalled city Business Administrator stated at the August 6th Council Meeting that issues related to neighborhood parking, bathrooms, and negotiations with contractors have stalled this project. He placed a price tag of about $1 million for completion. In 2014, City Officials placed a large sign stating the opening of recreational play by September 2014.

I have witnessed neighborhood kids, adults, and scores of students from City Schools seeking to utilize the former broken down tennis courts. I hope that a consistent effort is made by members of the City Council and the Mayor to complete the project. It can only enhance the beauty of the Waterfront.
