Movies @ Main: True Stories

WOODBRIDGE – On September 7 the Woodbridge Main Library will begin a new film series scheduled Friday afternoons at 2 p.m. that will feature films based on true stories. The first movie is Patriots Day, a depiction of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing starring Boston native Mark Wahlberg.  On September 14, we will screen Florence Foster Jenkins, a comedy drama with New Jersey native Meryl Streep as the titular character.  Streep was nominated for her 20th Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of an incompetent opera singer. September 21 will feature Only the Brave, an uplifting film about an elite group of firefighters who heroically battled the Yarnell Hill Fire (Arizona) in June 2013. 

I Can Only Imagine, an inspiring drama about a father- son relationship that is the basis of the song “I Can Only Imagine,” will be shown on September 28, followed by Marshall, a biographical film depicting the life of the first African-American Supreme Court Justice.  On October 12 we will present Chappaquiddick, a dramatic film about the 1969 fatal car accident in Massachusetts. The following week we will show the war drama, The Darkest Hour on October 19.  This film, with Gary Oldman in his a Best Actor performance, depicts Winston Churchill during the early days of World War II. Our series concludes on October 26 with Adrift, the true story of Tami Oldham and Richard Sharp’s heartbreaking adventure at sea.
