To all the local candidates running for office in the Municipal Election of 2018: it’s time to state your platform and what’s best for the community. Smokescreens are not working and people becoming weary of personnel attacks.
My suggestion is to get up early in the morning and walk around the business district. As we stated in a previous editorial, see how many temp agencies have people waiting for job assignments. You need to go to those agencies and see what types of jobs and where those residents are going to work.
That should be your first assignment.
I would like to see the percentage of residents who are employed by large corporations that have opened up in Perth Amboy over the past ten years. If any new units are being built, I’d like to know how much parking will be given for each unit. Will the developers help in the cost of road repairs as the developers did when the Federal Hill were built?
When will the dog park be completed? What are your thoughts on the Kushner Projects? Those existing and may be built down the road? What are your thoughts on illegal housing and how can this problem be curbed? The same thing goes with dumping?
Here’s the bottom line: if you just walk down the street and ask any resident about personal attacks being battered around, they are more likely to be concerned with issues that affect them directly. (See statements above.)
I remember in past years when different community organizations would proudly say how many dinners they served to the homeless. Unfortunately, I don’t think having a high number should be a goal. That just means there are more people who are not able to meet their basic needs which shouldn’t be happening. Those numbers should be going down.
This is just a short list that the candidates should be concentrating on.
All candidates running for office in Perth Amboy and South Amboy should submit a short bio, their ballot positions, and platforms to the Amboy Guardian by Friday, October 19, 2018.
