11/15/18 Board of Education Meeting

PERTH AMBOY – The committee to name the new Elementary School has come to a decision. The committee was headed by Board Member Lissette Lebron.
The criteria to name the school was it must be named after someone from Perth Amboy, and the person must be deceased.
Board Member Lissette Lebron stated, “The Perth Amboy Board of Education accepted applications for naming the new school (on Seaman Avenue). We had a meeting on August 14th and on September 26th. Three names were nominated: Austin Gumbs, Rose M. Lopez, and the Marcus & Rebecca Spring School. Rose M. Lopez School was the final vote. I would like to thank all the members and thank all who attended the meetings.”
Board Member Tashi Vasquez then added, “I thank the committee. You realize all of the history (of Perth Amboy). It’s important to keep the history of our town and the stories of it’s people alive. Rose Lopez was my 4th Grade Principal. She brought a lot of positive changes to the school district.”
Board Member Obi Gonzalez said, “I knew Rose Lopez. Ms. Lopez gave so much to our community. It’s a wonderful choice.”
The Board voted unanimously to adopt the name of Rose M. Lopez to the elementary school on Seaman Avenue and to report the naming to the SDA (School Development Authority).
