THE COMMUNITY VOICE: Letters to the Editor

Four Million Non-Citizens

Here’s something that will make your eyes pop out. The 2014 Census Survey reported that 4,684,784 non-citizen households are on welfare in the United States. WOW! It pays to be a non-citizen in America. What a life! Yes, it’s true and hard to believe. The control mainstream news media never reported or talked about this. Talk about a cover up. This was going on when Obama was in office. We’d like to know what else he was covering up. All this talk about President Trump’s Russian collusion which we know is fake. Yes, all Presidents have dirt here and there before, and after nothing new about that. BUT FOUR MILLION NON-CITIZENS on welfare when Obama was in office.

A Living Memorial

With the passing of another Pearl Harbor Day, I would like to mention the role of the U.S.S. North Carolina (BB-55) in raising the morale of the sailors at Pearl Harbor after the attack. The Carolina was known as the “Showboat” and was the only functioning battleship in the U.S. Navy after the attack and, at the time, the biggest and most powerful battleship in the world. My father, Joe Benedek, Sr., served on the Showboat from 1941-1945 as a Master Machinists Mate, First Class. The Showboat was sent on a tour from the Brooklyn Navy Yard, down the Eastern coast of the U.S., through the Panama Canal and finally to Pearl Harbor. At each stop, the ship with its full crew in dress whites would stand on deck as a reminder of the power and resolve of the United States Navy. The Carolina steamed into Pearl on July 11, 1942, past the destroyed Battleship Row and to the cheers and yells of the survivors. In a sense, the Showboat had come full circle. She proceeded to participate in over 50 naval actions, survive a torpedo hit, and become a valued member of the famous Task Force 58 of the U.S. Navy Third Fleet. My father also told me that had President Roosevelt lived to V-J Day, the signing of the Surrender Treaty would have been on the U.S.S. North Carolina as a reward for its contributions to the Pacific War. As it was, the U.S.S. Missouri, President Truman’s home state, did the honors while the Carolina patrolled the Tokyo Harbor.

Today, the U.S.S. North Carolina is in permanent harbor in Wilmington, North Carolina and open to the public all year, and though its World War II crew is dwindling, it serves as a living memorial to all those who gave their lives in World War II, from Pearl Harbor to Tokyo.

Very truly yours,

Bah Humbug!

I was listening to the radio the other day and heard a news report that a radio station in Ohio was going to ban the playing of the song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” on its’ airwaves. According to the news report I was listening to, the reason given was that a listener complained that, in her estimation, the song promoted “date rape”, or some such nonsense.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine and she said,

“Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” was first. Evidently the animated Christmas classic promotes bullying, homophobia, racism, and the like. Really! Give me a break!

To me it shows how unhinged the world is becoming. But where is this all coming from?

I did some research to try to find out the origins of this latest salvo fired in the “War on Christmas”. All I could find is that in both cases it started on Twitter.

There was a time when I would have called it the “Liberal War on Christmas”, but now not so much. I’ve talked to liberal friends of mine and they too are outraged about this latest assault on Christmas.

There are those who say that there is no “War on Christmas”. Well then, why is it “Happy Holidays” and not “Merry Christmas”? Why is it a “Holiday Party” and not a “Christmas Party”? Why is it a “Holiday Tree” and not a “Christmas Tree”? Who exactly is offended by Christmas anyhow?

I’m sure if the symbol of Ramadan was a tree it would be a “Ramadan Tree” not a “Holiday Tree”, if the symbol of Diwali was a tree it would be a “Diwali Tree” not a “Holiday Tree”, and no one would say a thing about it. But, a “Christmas Tree”, oh brother, batten down the hatches.

To this unhinged element I say; watch Rudolph again. It not only exposes bigotry, it shows Rudolph’s triumph over the prejudices and bigotry leveled against him.

Listen to “Baby its Cold Outside”, it’s about seduction not rape, big difference. The song was written in the 40’s, yet there is no outcry from the unhinged about the music of today that condones the rape and degrading of women. I wonder why?

Merry Christmas
