My late Aunt Mary had a favorite expression when she wanted to end a discussion, she would say: “Okay, turn the page.”
It is now our time to turn the page and write a new chapter. It was a difficult decision, but what we feel is the best.
We have decided to have the paper published biweekly. There will be a few months when we will publish 3 times a month. The new schedule will take effect the beginning of March. We will continue to publish weekly when we come back January 9, 2018 and in that issue we will have the publication schedule for the rest of the year.
Like anything else, costs goes up and we do appreciate the compliments that we received from many. Unfortunately, compliments cannot pay the bills.
We have been blessed to have our advertisers who have been with us from Day 1 and you see them in the paper every week. We also appreciate those who have advertised when they had special events or the holiday issues. We also have some new advertisers who go in sometimes once or twice a month who are also appreciated.
The advertisers we mentioned above are the ones who have kept us going and the best thing you can do for us is to use their services. They are the ones who make the Amboy Guardian possible and give you an opportunity for you to list your community events complimentary. Often, we get calls to cover some of these events or grand openings and it’s impossible to accommodate everyone. We accept photos with a short caption if you wish to have them published.
I have a habit of picking up other publications (weekly and monthly) to see how much information is submitted to them. Surprisingly, there is sometimes quite a bit.
I also want to thank a special South Amboy Resident, Mary Taylor, who would often provide photos of events taking place in her town when we couldn’t attend. She has been a true blessing to us.
There also have been many others who have also sent us photos which we appreciate.
I remember one of the newspapers I used to pick up was published in Princeton. They had an extensive sports section, but all of the photos, captions, and articles had to be submitted to them.
We like that idea, because we don’t have the staff to attend all these sport events. So my suggestion, if you have a student who has achieved in any field, please feel free to submit the information and the photo.
Keeping with the season, we’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy, and Prosperous New Year!
In this issue, are two letters and one poem that we think are apropos for this issue. We truly miss the late Thomas Francis Clark, who was one of our most prolific letter-writers along with the late Peter Book. Sadly a few years ago, we suddenly lost Dioris “The Poet” Arlequin who had an endless supply of poems on a diverse amount of subjects. Many times he would write poems about people in town. I miss Dioris’s great big bear hugs and smile whenever he would see me. I’m sure Dioris and Thomas Francis Clark are still watching over us from above.
We would like to end this editorial with suggestions of what we feel are some great movies and specials to watch during this Christmas season:
It’s a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol (Everybody has their favorite version.)
Miracle on 34th Street
The Bishop or (Preacher’s) Wife
