NEW JERSEY – John Leo Fedorka a retired Federal Fire Fighter for 21 years has been elected President of Retired Police & Fire Local #9 for 2019 replacing Mike Burns, retired Sayreville Police Department, who served as President for 6 years. During his tenure as a Federal Fire Fighter, John staffed several Federal posts and was a member of the several IAFF Locals holding the post of Secretary/Treasurer and Delegate to IAFF Local F-16. John started his firefighting career as a volunteer with the Perth Amboy Volunteer Fire Department’s Washington Engine Company 2. After moving to South Amboy, John joined the Mechanicsville Hose Co. 1 and later the Protection Engine Co. of the South Amboy Volunteer Fire Department. He has held the posts of First Vice President and later President of New Jersey Exempt Firemen’s Association. He is currently their Treasurer. John is a member of the Perth Amboy Exempt Firemen’s Association and sits on the 1921 Memorial Committee raising funds and making plans to mark the spot where several Perth Amboy Fire Fighters died in an accident while responding to an alarm.
Also elected to office for 2019 are: Joe Britton, Vice-President, Len Mundy, Treasurer, Dave Jakubezak, Financial Secretary, Colin Powers, Recording Secretary, Peter Kenny, State Delegate, Mike Burns, Alternate State Delegate, Thomas Noble, Sgt. At Arms, Robert Bonfonte, Chaplain. Elected to the Board of Trustees: John Meleski, John Haag, Anthony Tabaszewski, Jamie Norek and Robert Yackel.
New Jersey Retired Police & Fire is the only organization of retired police and fire fighters fighting to restore the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) in the State of New Jersey. Membership is open to all retired law enforcement officers and firefighters. Associate membership is open to volunteer firefighters and business people.
