Raritan Bay Medical Center Wears Red for Women

February is American Heart Month, Feb. 1 is Go Red for Women Day

Press Release 2/1/19

PERTH AMBOY – Hackensack Meridian Health Raritan Bay Medical Center-Perth Amboy and Raritan Bay Medical Center-Old Bridge team members wore red February 1 to help increase awareness of heart disease in women and in support of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Go Red for Women movement.

Only 55 percent of women realize heart disease is their No. 1 killer and less than half know what are considered healthy levels for cardiovascular risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol.  The AHA recommends people be aware of five key numbers: total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, and body mass index (BMI) to determine their risk for heart disease.

Women and men can learn about their risk and the signs and symptoms of heart disease at Raritan Bay’s free “Healthy Hearts” event Thursday, February 14, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in Centennial Hall B, at Raritan Bay-Perth Amboy, 530 New Brunswick Ave.  Registration is required, call 1-800-860-9990.
