EDITORIAL: Who Will Take Care of the Caretaker?

We were always taught the value of being an American Citizen and the rights that came with it. What good is that right if you have people who enter into the United States illegally or overstay their visas and receive some of those same rights and privileges: Drivers Licenses, Free In-State Tuition, etc. How do you explain this to American Students who are graduating with a high student loan debt? How do you explain this to families who saved and sacrificed to send their children to college when others are handed a higher education freely?

Is this fair? Are the American citizens’ taxpayer dollars being spent unwisely? Those dollars pay the politician’s salaries. There are perks politicians have that regular citizens that people who work in the private sectors aren’t afforded.

In 2018, the Illinois Senate passed a bill limiting severance pay (and prohibiting it if you’ve been fired for misconduct).

There was a recent interview with Author John Zmirak who wrote the book “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Immigration.”

He spoke about his family who immigrated from Hungary in 1916. They came over legally but were unskilled and uneducated. But unskilled labor was needed at that point in the United States. The labor that was in demand then is not in demand now. Technology has changed the face of the workforce.

We still need people to come over the United States, but more are needed with specialized skills.

Growing up in Perth Amboy, when we played together as kids, we were unaware of people’s ethnicity, race, or religion. We socialized and it was a non-issue.

What happened? Now it seems people purposely want to characterize other people to always have a victim mentality.

First of all, you have to look at your circumstances and see if where you are is the cause or the result of an action. There are many things that you can do to change your circumstances and only you know the truth. Take control over the things you can. Usually you can find someone who overcame the same situation as yourself and you can team up with that person as a support system.

This is probably the 10th time we have mentioned this: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” (a saying which is attributed to various sources).

What we need is a lot of fishing poles to teach people how to be fed for a lifetime.

Recently, someone called a radio station and gave the definition of foreign aid. It’s taking money from the middle class in the United States to send it to the rich in poor countries. Unfortunately a lot of the time this is true.

Each year, a certain radio station has a fundraiser to send money to Haiti and San Salvador. Look at the leadership in these countries. I remember taking a side trip to Haiti in the late 1980’s. I was appalled at the living conditions of the locals. In the distance, you can see the Presidential Palace in all its glory in the mountains. Even after all these years, how much improvement has Haiti made? There are so many countries where the leadership has failed their citizens miserably.

People criticize the United States, but I’ll tell you what. It is the most perfect imperfect country in the world. I would not want to be a citizen anywhere else.
