More than a Gym and Swim: The Y’s Impact on Our Community!
Press Release
PERTH AMBOY – The Raritan Bay Area YMCA has kept pace with the times, providing services and solutions to problems that impact the Perth Amboy community.
“It’s not just a gym,” Steve Jobin, CEO said. “Yes, members get a gym and a pool, but we offer various other programs to the community, so there’s a community feel here.”
With the thanks of so many donors throughout the years, the YMCA is able offer financial assistance, children’s swimming lessons, teen leadership programs, school-age childcare, community service programs and so much more. The YMCA is what you make it, for some of its members the Y provides a backdrop for a great workout and for others the benefits go far beyond fitness.
Sandra Altuna, 37 says, the reason my family joined the Raritan Area YMCA eight years ago was because we were looking for a family oriented place, with safe nurturing child care while my husband and I worked out. The child care staff member, who is a grandmother herself so she understood how I felt letting someone else care for my children. My 4 children loved playing with their friends in Child Watch and I always felt comfortable with them being there. My children have grown up at the Y and still like to visit child watch. We have met the nicest families at the Y and felt welcome from the very first day.”
Ultimately, all of our Y’s programs point to the same goal: Making the community a better place to live and work. Every day, the organization works to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
Richard Greaves, 42 says, “The after-care program has been such a help with both me and my wife working full-time jobs. The Y provides a safe and supportive atmosphere for both of my children. They not only help with homework, my kids are able to make friends and have fun.”
But we can’t do it alone, together we can do so much more! Currently the Raritan Bay Area YMCA is running its annual fundraising campaign. Funds raised help the Y provide financial assistance throughout the year to families in need. You are invited to support the campaign, volunteer or contribute in another way. The annual campaign ends May 31st.
