PERTH AMBOY – Perth Amboy High School is one of 88 schools across the nation that has been named a National School of Character. According to Character.org, Perth Amboy High School has demonstrated a dedicated focus on character development, which has had a positive effect on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate.
Dr. David Roman, Superintendent of Schools, stated, “The district has made significant academic increases over the past several years by steadily increasing graduation rates, increasing the number of students receiving the Seal of Biliteracy, opening interactive learning academies and establishing a myriad of robust program opportunities to enhance student achievement throughout the district. This recognition reconfirms that our school district is not only achieving wonderful academic strides, but also establishing safe, warm, caring and nurturing learning environments for students and staff. Our district is a place where genuine, collaborative, authentic and positive relationships exists between our students and staff.”
Members of the Perth Amboy High School Character Education team led by the principal, Ms. Daisy Rodriguez, planned and implemented character initiatives in the school over the last three years. “These schools’ representatives, including educators, parents, and students, are working together to create stronger communities focused on character. We are honored to validate their efforts and continue coaching them along their journeys.” stated Doug Karr, Character.org’s President & CEO.
Criteria for selection are based on Character.org’s 11 Principles of Effective Character, which include providing students with opportunities for moral action, fostering shared leadership, and engaging families and communities as partners in the character-building effort.
