Recently in the news, Nike caved into Colin Kaepernick’s complaint that the Betsy Ross Flag was a “slave era” symbol, so Nike pulled the Betsy Ross Flag Sneakers off the market. This is just one of many examples of political correctness. 

Political correctness has been getting more intense over the years. Topics such as the history of blackface, Kate Smith’s rendition of God Bless America, the banning of Christmas colors (Red and Green) at a “Holiday Party”, the bullying of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, the deletion of the song “Be Prepared” in the new Lion King Remake, Chimney Sweepers in Mary Poppins, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, even Major League Baseball no longer has a “Disabled List” – It’s now the “Injured List”. Many athletes on sports teams don’t want the owners of their perspective teams known as “owners” because they view it is a “slave reference”.

All these topics have been deemed, “Politically Incorrect”.

It happens that some Black entertainers and former Black athletes are OWNERS or PART- OWNERS of some of these franchises. Get over yourselves. This is an insult to people who actually were slaves and didn’t have the privileges, rights, money, or could just walk away with another lucrative contract. Maybe you need a bigger pacifier.

On July 4, 2019, 6 police officers were standing in line with their purchases in Starbucks in Tempe, Arizona. They were approached by the barista on duty who requested that they move out of line or leave. A customer complained several times to the barista that they felt uncomfortable about the police presence. The Officers decided to leave. (Source: The Washington Post 7/7/19)

Lastly, let’s talk about the incident that happened at the ICE facility in Aurora, Colorado. 

Protestors removed the flags: a GEO Group banner, a U.S. flag, and a Colorado flag. They put up their own, a Mexican flag, an upside down banner that was a “thin blue line” emblem, which resembles an American flag, and another banner also disparaging police officials. (Source: The Denver Post)

The protestors were from the GEO which is for Immigration Rights who are known to be peaceful demonstrators. According to the news source, another group asked to join in the protest and did the disgusting act. (Source: Aurora Sentinel & *AP)

In America, it is within your  rights to criticize the Country’s   leaders, disrespect the American Flag, even if you are here illegally. 

You want to know why some people do anything they can to come to America? Because they know they have a right to do it here. 

Let me tell you something. I have traveled to Mexico, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Haiti, Yugoslavia, to name a few. Even though I had my passport and what I needed to travel, the one thing that never crossed my mind was to disrespect the laws of those countries. Try pulling stunts like those mentioned above to the government you wanted to escape from. If you tried, you would probably be a martyr. 

Although, for the most part I had enjoyable vacations, there was nothing like getting back to the good old USA, because I saw the grass on the other side, but I know the grass is greener here.

Where is the future of America going? Just think if there is nothing left of our individuality or originality: Everyone will wear the same style of grey shirts and pants. God forbid you wear a different color because it might offend someone. Everyone both male and female will keep their hair real short and bland because if you wear it long, it will offend people who are bald. We will all watch the same “acceptable” TV programs (one channel), the same movies, listen to the same music and read “acceptable” books. There will no longer be any sports or competition of any sort because if you win at the game, you might offend the opposing team. We will all eat the same synthesized food (maybe Soylent Green) because if we eat real food, we will be offending someone. No one will work, because a giant main computer will be governing us and telling us what to think and provide us with our necessities. Robots will do all the necessary tasks. Knowledge will be limited to simple books and a monitored internet which the computer overlord will keep track of what you are looking up. 

That’s where we are headed. In a nation that was founded on rugged individualism and our most important trait – our individuality is slowly being absorbed into a giant mindless collective. This is akin to the Borg in Star Trek who tried to assimilate the Federation. Think about it, the very thing we are trying to protect – our diversity – our American Melting Pot – or individualism – is being destroyed and giving way to “Democratic Socialism” or to put it plainly: Communism to its highest degree.

Our pride, creativity, innovation from the frontier spirit is giving way to technology and entitlements in the name of “safety” and protecting the “snowflakes”. Some people want to erase our history. Yes, the United States has committed its share of sins, but so has every country. There is no perfect place, and nobody is perfect. We all do and say things we shouldn’t. With the advent of social media, the instant you do something stupid, it’s already on Facebook or a similar site. It’s public shaming – like the book “The Scarlet Letter”.

Everyone isn’t going to like what you say or do, and remember: “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”. ― John Lydgate.

I for one am tired of walking on eggshells worried about who I’m offending. How far is this going to go? We are all going to end up as a bunch of mindless drones, being told what to think and how to think it. Political Correctness must stop, or we will lose everything our forefathers fought and died for. America’s future should not be dictated by celebrities, athletes, or politicians with personal agendas. It’s time to stand up, to be that square peg in a round hole and remember it’s okay to be different – to be yourself. If God wanted everyone to be the same, we would all look and sound exactly alike.
