Celebrating the Sesqui-centennial at “The Old White Church”

Historical Association of Woodbridge Township

WOODBRIDGE – Join the Historical Association in celebrating the 350th Anniversary of Woodbridge Township at the historic First Presbyterian Church with music, readings, and keynote speaker Timothy Hart, President of the League of Historic Societies. Monday, September 23, 2019 @ 7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Rahway Avenue, Woodbridge Township. The topic Mr. Hart will address is “The Importance to Remember and Celebrate.”

The Old White Church, as the First Presbyterian Church is commonly known, was built at the center of Woodbridge across from the Kirk Green in 1675. Originally this landmark was a Meetinghouse-Church reflecting the culture of the early Puritan settlers. During the week, the building was a meeting house for public affairs and on Sunday a house of worship. However the diverse worship services changed when the congregants voted to join the Philadelphia Presbytery in 1710, becoming the third oldest Presbyterian Church in New Jersey. The historic burial ground is adjacent to the church and holds over 3000  graves, including enlisted men and officers of America’s wars.
