PERTH AMBOY – Known as “America’s Swim Instructor,” more than a million children and teens learn to swim every year at the Y. Once completing swim lessons, many kids enjoy the water recreationally for the rest of their lives. For those who want to take their swimming to an even higher level, the RARITAN BAY AREA YMCA offers three competitive swim teams.

Competitive swim at the Y includes the Tsunami Swim Team, the Perth Amboy Piranha’s Special Olympics Swim Team and the RBAY Masters’ Teams. Programs vary in size but typically include swimmers from age 6 to 18. Masters programs begin at age 19 and have no age limit.

“YMCA competitive swimming and diving teams are the natural progression from Safety Around Water and Y Swim Lessons, encouraging children and teens to continue their love of swimming while providing an ideal environment for cognitive, physical and social-emotional development,” said, Steve Jobin, CEO, RARITAN BAY AREA YMCA. “Through competitive aquatics programs, participants experience achievement, feel a sense of belonging and build supportive relationships.”

The Tsunami Swim Team is holding open tryouts on MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH and WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH from 6:00pm to 8:00pm for anyone interested in becoming a part of the team.
