SOUTH AMBOY — It’s finally September, and school is back in session! Not sure what to do at the end of the day? Perhaps you’re super-intending to visit the Dowdell Library, a world-class facility with all its faculties intact. Don’t fall behind this autumn: find a group of friends that cliques, let no setback lesson your enthusiasm, and take full advantage of the extracurricular opportunities at your local library!

First off, a few announcements… September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month! Each time you check out an item, you’ll receive a raffle entry form. Entries are limited to one per person per day; one winner will be randomly selected at the end of the month. Good luck!

After Labor Day, the Dowdell returns to Fall Hours and will be open 10am to 8pm Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays; 10am to 5pm Wednesdays and Fridays; and 12pm to 4pm on Saturdays.

Sadie’s Study Hour runs from 2:30pm to 3:30pm every school day from Monday to Thursday and 2:30pm to 3pm on Fridays! Take advantage of free Wi-Fi and fast ethernet, computer-based and wireless printing, a quiet workspace, and knowledgeable librarians for every assignment.

The first day of school—September 5—will conclude with Welcome Back Icebreakers from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at the Dowdell. Students are strongly encouraged to return the day after, Friday, September 6, for a Party Game Party from 3pm to 4:30pm.

Finally, from September 23 to September 30, kids, tweens, and teens can enter the library’s Banned Book Week Emoji Contest! Decode the emoji message to discover the title of a famous banned book. All entrants will be entered in a drawing at the end of the week.

On to the usual fareQ Toddler STEAM Tales run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1pm to 2pm. Swing by for a tech- or arts-related storytime and activity!

Bring your little scientist to Eggsperimental Tuesdays, where they’ll discover a new egg-based experiment every week between 1pm and 2pm! Stop back later that day to participate in All-Ages Origami from 3:30pm to 4:30pm, where you’ll make a different shape every week.

As always, Wednesdays are for 3-D Printer Magic, where expensive machines meet cheap plastic. Receive a pre-printed object or design your own in Sadie’s Studio between 3:30pm and 4:30pm.
