Press Release 8/15/19
PERTH AMBOY – Perth Amboy Public Schools is pleased to announce that the district is one of thirty-four school districts nationwide recognized as “Districts of Distinction.”
Districts of Distinction was established by District Administration magazine to honor innovative school districts that are leading the way with new ideas that solve challenges. Perth Amboy Public Schools is being recognized for its “High School Career-Based Communications Academy”, in which district leaders partnered with communication experts from New York University, Seton Hall University, and Kean University to develop a new communications career-based curriculum. Courses feature both academic theory and hands-on practice. New facilities were added, including a television and recording studio, six editing suites, and a virtual reality lab. Students who can communicate in more than one language can build those skills and also prepare for the New Jersey Seal of Biliteracy. An international communications track features classes in international diplomacy.
“Our district has a multitude of robust initiatives underway that are positively impacting student successes,” says Dr. David A. Roman, Superintendent. “The Communications Academy provides students with the college and career-readiness skills needed to fulfill all of their hopes and dreams.”
Honorees are selected based on quantifiable results and the replicability of their initiatives. The July 2019 Districts of Distinction honorees were selected by the magazine’s editors from numerous nominations. “These districts have developed innovative programs to support students in their education and well beyond the classroom,” says JD Solomon, editorial director of District Administration magazine. “We hope our readers are inspired by the efforts of these honorees to create successful initiatives in their own districts.”
