“Your Majesty’s welcome, too.”
Downton – the award-winning phenomenon has been made into a big scale movie which continues the adventures of lies and loves of this family that occupies Downton Abbey. A royal post has been sent to the family, and after it is received, they are overjoyed that the royal family, the King and Queen of England, are coming to visit them. It’s just for an overnight visit, but there also will be a parade with the military. Many stories overlap and continue. With the royal visitors come to Downton Abbey, all of the original actors who portrayed their roles from the TV series reprise their roles. The movie picks up right where they left off.
If you have fans of this series, they will love this and its bigger grander scale showing off more of the grounds and the beauty of the house. The attention to detail is spot-on. What I really loved about this movie is they give a lot of story to the Grand Duchess, who is probably the most wonderful and most interesting character, as she sorts out her little intrigue in this royal visit. You get to see much of their beautiful clothes and the ins-and-outs of the servants as they sort out what this means for their household.
My only complaint is that you probably would say that they could have just done this as a TV movie and that would have been that. However, I think that this is just as fun to see it on the big screen as it is to see it on a large TV screen.
What I always liked about this series is that it has a sense of humor and is also very serious all at the same time. This movie continues that wonderful tradition. Should you go see it? Absolutely! Especially if you have fans in the family where this might be a great way to introduce them to this to this series. Go see it! The family will be expecting you.
