PERTH AMBOY – Aleman Carpet founder and original owner Raimundo Aleman immigrated from Cuba on July 14, 1968. Along with his wife and two sisters, Elsa Aleman, and Caridad Miranda. Caridad, better known as Mimi has been with the company since day one. Raimundo worked at the Jewelry Exchange in New York and later would sell his custom-made gold jewelry as a vendor in Newark. In addition to his expertise as a jewelry maker, he also specialized in making custom designed furniture for people in a variety of professions. Aleman Jewelry & Furniture Store opened its doors at 219 Smith Street, Perth Amboy on October 24, 1969. In the 1980’s, the business expanded to also selling and installing flooring. In 1988, Adolfo Perez married the daughter of Raimundo Aleman. Aleman Carpet then became solely dedicated to selling and installing flooring. The store relocated to 198 Smith Street, Perth Amboy. The company later moved to 336 Madison Avenue. On March 1, 2019, the company was taken over by his nephews Christian and Mitchell Nogueras and the name was changed to Aleman Carpeting.
The Aleman family celebrated their 50th Anniversary of business in Perth Amboy on October 24, 2019. When asked the secret of their success, Raimundo Aleman simply answered, “Hard work.” He proudly stated how much he loves this town and how in all the years the company has been in business, there has not been one complaint. The family prides themselves on quality customer service which separates them from the big box-stores who often are not specialists in the department they work in. Aleman Carpet clients know they will be treated as an individual and not a number.
The nephews learned hands on the business from Raimundo and worked in the store since they were teenagers. It’s a third-generation business. Raimundo and his wife, who also works at the store just celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary on September 23, 2019.
The business has served many clients over the years from private houses to large corporations and everybody in-between. One of their many large corporate orders included Port Elizabeth in Elizabeth, NJ. Aleman Carpeting carries many major brands and a large majority of options and materials to choose from for your needs including laminate, tile, and vinyl to name a few. They are a full-service flooring contractor. The current location on Madison Avenue is close to all public transportation, parking, and accessible by all major highways.
The Aleman family has donated to the Perth Amboy Police Department and as part of the celebration will be having specials for the community and public servants.
Raimundo, who is now retired states he enjoys every day of his life. It was our joy and a pleasure to interview the Aleman family who during the interview would joyfully kid each other which to us shows the respect and love of what a true loving family should be.
Congratulations to Aleman Carpeting on your 50th Anniversary of being in business in Perth Amboy!
