An Organizational Response to Breast Cancer with Early Detection and Prevention

Press Release 10/25/19

PERTH AMBOY- The JRMC held a press luncheon on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Seabra’s Armory in Perth Amboy to announce their enhanced women’s services, including the purchase of a 3-D mammogram machine in 2020.

The event featured a panel of speakers including Lisett Lebron, Women’s Health Initiative, Board Chair; Jaime Rivello, JRMC’s Chief Compliance Officer and Breast Cancer Survivor; Quiche Jones, Strategic Alliance Account Manager for AETNA Better Health of NJ (event co-host); and John T. O’Leary, Chief Executive Officer of the JRMC. Guests in attendance were from local and surrounding business districts, city officials, JRMC staff, and residents.  Aetna Better Health of NJ enthusiastically supports JRMC’s global health initiatives and is committed to providing additional support for the new women’s health program.

The announcement was made during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women. The goal of the event was to promote awareness and education for breast cancer screenings, early detention, and support services.

The JRMC is a federally qualified health center that offers adult medicine, pediatrics, women’s wellness, dental, nutrition, and behavioral health. JRMC provides 75,000 patient encounters annually within the combined centers located in Perth Amboy and Newark.

“We exist to deliver quality, community-based primary care services in a culturally sensitive manner with integrity and respect to all patients,” said John T. O’Leary, Chief Executive Officer of the JRMC.  “Our services are affordable, accessible, and comprehensive so that all who seek medical care can find it with dignity”.

JRMC treats 16,000 female patients annually. More than 50% of these patients have never had a mammogram. This is a healthcare crisis.  “The good news is that most women can survive breast cancer if it is found and treated early,” stated O’Leary.   It is our mission to expand our reach into education and awareness to save lives through the expansion of services including an in-house 3-D mammogram machine. Early detection saves lives.  This is the mantra of the JRMC leadership, and we are counting on everyone to join in our mission to save lives.”

The WHI, part of JRMC, a 501(c)(3) corporation, is an integrative health endeavor that expands Women’s Wellness to include mammograms, nutrition, and other vital services integral to a woman’s healthy mind and body, regardless of income.
