10/16/19 Council Meeting

SOUTH AMBOY – After the meeting was called to order by Vice President Christine Noble, there was a moment of silence for Pat Leonard who recently passed away.
During the public portion on agenda items only regarding item b.) Ordinance #20-2019 – An ordinance prohibiting the sale of “Puppy Mill” cats and kittens. Humane Society from the United States County Leader (Union County, NJ) Volunteer Larry Cohen who had spoken at the last council meeting thanked everyone for helping to get this ordinance passed. “I’m glad to make myself available. This is probusiness. It’s like the plastic bag issue – the more press we have – the better.”
Every ordinance on the agenda passed unanimously.
During the Council Comments, everyone gave their condolences to the family of Pat Leonard. Councilman Tom Reilly spoke first. “Pat Leonard was a father and good husband. We had a benefit last week (for him).”
Reilly then spoke about a few issues: “As a council, we should discuss the vaping stores. We’re seeing a lot of unhealthy practices.” Reilly then went on to speak about the need for firefighters and first aid members, “There’s three new firemen. In the last few meetings, a lot of volunteers signed up. We still need first aid volunteers.” Reilly then stated that crossing guards are needed.”
Business Administrator Glenn Skarzynski answered, “We had an unexpected resignation.” Skarzynski then made a few comments: “The municipal code should be online on the city website. We have 90% of it digitized. There still is still is stuff from last year to be done.”
Mayor Fred Henry stated, “I taught Pat and Michelle. I want to thank the council on Ordinance #23 (#23-2019 – An ordinance adopting a code of ordinances of the city of South Amboy in the county of Middlesex, state of New Jersey.) I’ve been harping a long time. The entire code book to South Amboy had to be amended. I want to thank the council. It’s long time coming.”
During the public portion, resident Brian Murphy spoke. “Back in the early summer, I discussed parking. It doesn’t say anything about resident’s parking or resident’s stickers. (Council President) Mickey Gross said this would be taken care of. Is there a follow up on this?”
B.A. Glenn Skarzynski answered, “At this point, we have not come up with a doable plan.”
Murphy then picked up an agenda, “Every meeting I grab (one of these).”
City Clerk Debra Brooks stated that you can find the agenda online.
The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m. Council President Mickey Gross and Councilwoman Zusette Dato were not present at the meeting.
