Press Release 2/10/20
SOUTH AMBOY – 2020 marks the 44th annual South Amboy Saint Patrick’s Day Parade set to begin at 2 pm on Sunday, March 15. It is one of the biggest events in in the city of South Amboy and has become one of the largest parades in the State of New Jersey featuring more than 23 bands and over 2,000 marchers. Marchers will begin line-up at 1 pm on South Pine Avenue.
Due to road construction on Main Street, the parade route has been changed and marchers will move down Second Street to avoid the construction area. Residents are advised that roads may be closed as early as 11am on parade day.
This year’s parade is dedicated to South Amboy native, Ron Sturgis, one of the original Co-Chairman of the Parade Committee. Sadly, we lost Ron in January of this year. Ron was a friend to all and through his leadership, hard work and enthusiasm the South Amboy St. Patrick’s Day Parade continues to become bigger and better. Ron will be greatly missed by all but we take comfort in knowing that he will be smiling down upon the City on parade day.
The parade will provide spectators with a multi-cultural array of entertainment including various pipe and drum bands, the sounds of Salsa music, a traditional Chinese folklore Waist Drum Team, and the Uptown String Brand bringing the color, excitement and grandeur of the Philadelphia Mummers to our city.
Spectators are encouraged to bring non-perishable canned or boxed food items to donate to the less fortunate. Donation bins will be located at City Hall and near the Grandstand on Parade Day.
