PERTH AMBOY – On 7/9/20 at 14:30, Perth Amboy Fire and Police units were dispatched to a reported person drowning in the Raritan Bay near Water St & Lewis St. Upon arrival, one male was found already out of the water that had attempted to help a 17-year-old male who was now underwater. Police and Fire units immediately began searching the area while four firefighters from Rescue 1 and Truck 2 entered the water to search below. The Perth Amboy Dive Team and NYPD divers searched underwater while numerous fire & police boats scanned the area above along with multiple helicopters. After 2 hours, the victim was located. CPR was immediately initiated, and the victim was transported to HMH RBMC in cardiac arrest.
Fire Units involved in the operation were R-1, T-2, M-5, E-1, C-1, C-3, C-5 and the Dive Team along with the Perth Amboy Police Department. Out of town units that responded were the FDNY Marine Division, NYPD Air Sea Rescue, NYPD Harbor Unit, NYPD SCUBA Unit, US Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police
Marine and Aviation, Carteret Fire Department Fireboat, Bayonne Fire Department Fireboat and Hackensack Meridian Health Emergency Medical Services.
