PERTH AMBOY – Alameda’s frontline workers were inspired and galvanized at a celebratory event dedicated to recognizing their courage and fortitude during the pandemic. Dr. Harold McKenna, the Medical Director of Alameda Care Center, was especially laudatory in his remarks, as he reflected on his affiliation with Alameda, and particularly the staff’s overall sincere commitment and devotion to Alameda’s residents.

“When the crisis developed I was in contact with both the nursing staff and the administration on a regular basis,” said Dr. McKenna, “and they handled the crisis admirably.”

Dr. McKenna noted Alameda’s strict adherence to guidelines that keep the facility COVID-free, with monitoring of patients’ temperature and weekly testing, and twice-weekly testing of all employees. Moreover, every patient admitted to Alameda from a hospital is administered a COVID test prior to admission to verify their COVID-free status. All patients have private rooms which, obviously, limits any type of contagion as well.

“Alameda has always been known for their compassion,” said Dr. McKenna, as he praised the nursing staff who were available seven days a week, 24/7, caring for the patients. He spoke with deep respect of their performance during the crisis, which he personally observed. “I was often here on the weekends and saw their hands-on clinical expertise as they put their own lives at risk to care for Alameda’s residents,” he said.

“I think going forward anyone would be proud and satisfied to have a loved one or a family member in this facility,” Dr. McKenna concluded.
