Perth Amboy—Perth Amboy residents will have the opportunity to elect the youngest school board member in New Jersey’s history on November 3rd 2020. Meet Keryn Morales, a high school student who has joined the #FTLO Quality Education team to run for a seat on the Perth Amboy School Board. Morales joins incumbent Perth Amboy Board of Education member Maria E. Rodriguez, community advocate and businesswoman Sharon D. Hubberman, and lifelong resident and county committeewoman Hattie Harrell. The #FTLO Quality Education slate has over a combined 50 years of community service and offer a multi-generational perspective to help improve the direction of the school district.

Keryn Morales is a highly motivated and socially conscious school board candidate who wants to make a difference in her community: “The reason I want to run for the Board of Education is to help society be better and to make sure education is a number one priority to our lives,” said Morales.

Maria E. Rodriguez, who currently serves on the School Board, and is a retired business professional, states that we urgently need a new direction on our School Board: “In order to offer a quality  education, a “business as usual” approach will not help our Education system. Our children’s success depends on how we embrace new ideas and respond to changes,“ said Rodriguez. “Our team is about showing our children that opportunity, determination, and commitment are the cornerstone of success, and together our team will help bring much needed attention to areas that can be improved.”

Rodriguez continued to stress that the FTLO Quality Education team is well-rounded and will lead through example, “We are very enthusiastic to work together and are eager to inspire more of our  youth to reach for the stars just like Keryn.”

“It is vital for our community to have school board members who are diligent, professional, and offer a wide and unique perspective,” said Hubberman. “Our FTLO Quality Education team will  focus  on making sure our Educators, and our Students are heard first, and that good programming is enhanced.”

Hattie Harrell, a Perth Amboy High School Alumnus, a retired EKG technician, and grandmother to several children in our school system focuses on areas of engagement: “As a future Board member I hope to help improve the quality of communication between the parents and schools,”  said Harrell. “We need to enhance the quality of the school experience.”
