PERTH AMBOY – Councilman Helmin J. Caba and his “2020 Vision for Perth Amboy” running mates: Rose Brion Morales and Bienvenido “BJ” Torres filed 1,500 nominating petitions today with the City Clerk’s office to be placed on the Nov. 3rd ballot for Mayor and two City Council seats.
Caba’s “2020 Vision” Team has, so far, garnered support from 54 members of the city’s Democratic Organization, of which Caba has been Chairman since 2017. They also received endorsements from City Council President William Petrick: Councilwoman Milady Tejeda, former Council President Lisa Nanton, former Councilman Fernando Gonzalez, former Mayoral candidate Miguel Morales and former Councilwoman Nancy Muñiz, New Jersey’s first Puerto Rican elected official.
The powerful New Jersey State AFL-CIO, which represents 1,000 union locals, as well as Patricia Paradiso, president of the American Federation of Teachers-Local 857, will be supporting Caba’s “2020 Vision” Team this November. Current school board member and retired police detective Kenneth Puccio, as well as former school board members Samuel Lebreault, Obdulia ‘Obi’ Gonzalez and Manuel Nuñez, are also putting their energy and support behind Helmin, Rose and Bienvenido.
Former 2016 Mayoral candidate, community leader and business owner, Miguel Nuñez, recently withdrew his 2020 mayoral bid to back the “2020 Vision” Team. “I believe Councilman Caba is clearly the best candidate for Mayor. We are a city of immigrants who represent flags from all over the world, but we must now unite under the American flag and under a banner that says ‘Caba for Mayor’,” Nuñez said. “He is the leader Perth Amboy needs.”
“The reason that residents of Perth Amboy and key leaders in the community are coming together to support the “2020 Vision” Team, is because we are prepared to provide the solutions to the city’s ongoing issues,” said Bienvenido “BJ” Torres.
“We have assembled a knowledgeable and exceptional team to chart a new course for our city,” said Torres, president of the Perth Amboy Arts Council, the founder of the Waterfront Neighborhood Association and a graduate teaching assistant at Rutgers University.
“We are blessed with a vibrant, diverse and hardworking population. The residents of Perth Amboy deserve better,” said Rose B. Morales, a curriculum coordinator at Middlesex County College and attended Rutgers University.
“Our focus on improving the quality of life of residents, improving public safety, and addressing our city’s aging infrastructure are all on the forefront of our new vision. The “2020 Vision” Team will provide strong leadership that will ensure economic vitality, and responsible spending of our tax dollars, all while paving a strong pathway to success for our beloved city and our residents. The future of our city is at stake this November 3rd. We need to take our city back from all of the mismanagement and incompetency” said Caba.
