An Outright Lie

I had the honor and privilege of serving our great city for a period of twelve years in the position of Council President and Councilman. I firmly believed in the Oath of Office I was sworn to uphold. To me, that Oath meant serving with dignity and honesty and as such, should never be violated. In a recent campaign flyer, Mayoral candidates Joseph B. Vas told an outright lie concerning Captain Paul Cannamela of the Perth Amboy Police Department. Vas lied when he stated that the Captain Cannamela did not take the qualifying examination. That is a lie because Captain Cannamela did take and pass the qualifying examination. We had one mayor who lied, cheated, and stole from the city and in fact, was sentenced to a six-year jail term. Now, we have the son of the same mayor, telling a lie in his campaign literature. It appears to be that if Vas lies as a candidate, what other unethical things would he do in the unlikely event he becomes mayor? I am sure that lurking in the shadows, his most “trusted” advisor would be his convicted father.

Armand Cannamela

Short-Term Memory

One of the mayoral candidates in Perth Amboy states that he helped nearly a thousand homeowners to lower their property taxes. While true, he almost makes it sound as if he did this work pro bono. Tens of thousands of shekels went into his pocket as well! The same person mentions the failures of the past twelve years conveniently (?) forgetting the previous administration’s fiascoes. Now, who was mayor then? And finally, both investigating and litigating non-violent crimes also cost the taxpayers money as does housing, feeding, providing medical care as well as other amenities if that individual is incarcerated. Only one candidate that I know of has a parent that fits that description! Thank you!
