Perth Amboy is one of the few towns which had to have a runoff election. Unfortunately, there was a lot of animosity going around. At the end of the day, this should all be put aside during the holiday season.
Just like we did during Superstorm Sandy, we have to pull together for the benefit of our community that has been hit the hardest during the coronavirus. Forget any pettiness, but to tell you the truth – people are more concerned about putting food on the table and if the politicians are going to come together regarding a stimulus package. Talk is cheap.
At the end of the council meetings, most of the speakers will say the same thing: “Stay safe; wash your hands; practice social distancing.” In spite of all of this, you are still going to have people who are going to buck the system. You know why? You always have knuckleheads who only care about themselves. It really has nothing to do with someone’s race or culture.
Children sometimes will have better hygiene than adults, because these safety precautions are being drilled into their heads at a young age and sometimes adults will just fall into their bad habits. You have to be responsible for your own actions. So, as we end 2020, there is hope on the horizon for a vaccine which has already been administered to people in other countries and soon to be distributed in the United States.
We as Americans have always overcome many disasters and there is no reason to be pessimistic that we will not overcome this virus, too.
I think personally we are all looking forward to 2021 as we should be. As we stated in our last editorial, I saw a t-shirt that said: The first thing you should do in 2021 is not mention 2020. But mark my words, some of the hottest selling items in 2021 will be anything that says: I survived 2020! At the end, all you have is hope. If you don’t have hope, everything else is lost.
We will leave you with the lyrics from a song called “Smile”: Music by Charles Chaplin, Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons, 1954. Smile has been recorded by Jimmy Durante, Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Robert Downey, Jr., and Michael Jackson, to name a few.
“Smile”
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You’ll get by…
If you smile
Through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through for you
Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying
You’ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile
