Donald & Alease Hilliard-Chapman Foundation to Donate 500 Books to Perth Amboy Kindergartners & The Giving Bookshelf

Organization Honors the Late Alease Hilliard-Chapman Who Would Have Turned 88 this Weekend

Press Release 2/26/21

PERTH AMBOY – To promote early childhood literacy, primarily with marginalized youth, the Donald and Alease Hilliard-Chapman Foundation (DAHCF) is hosting a book drive to donate more than 500 books to Perth Amboy Elementary School and The Giving Bookshelf, an organization that aims to increase inner-city youth success by increasing the opportunity to read.

The late Alease Hilliard-Chapman, who DAHCF is partly named after, would be celebrating her 88th birthday this weekend. Her love for children was so strong, and has been passed down to her children and grandchildren who are honoring her memory with the book drive. They have made it their mission to advocate for what she was truly passionate about – children.

“We’re so happy to honor my late mother in this way,” said Bishop Donald Hilliard, Jr., Senior Pastor of The Cathedral International. “She would be turning 88 years-old this Sunday, and we wanted to bless young children and promote literacy in a meaningful way.”

According to The Literacy Project Foundation, 61 percent of low-income families have no books at all in their homes for their children. DAHCF is on the battleground to combat this issue to ensure that all children are afforded an opportunity to the right of literacy.

DAHCF has an Amazon registry for books and donations can also be made via PayPal. For more information, please email dahcf228@gmail.com and visit DAHCF’s Facebook page.
