Press Release
SOUTH AMBOY — In May the chill in the air has been replaced with warm sunny afternoons, and all those April showers brought us plenty of May flowers. May is a great month to take a deep breath and appreciate the people and places we surround ourselves with, and at the Dowdell Library, we are doing just that.
The library kicks off the month celebrating Children’s Book Week, which is the annual celebration of books for young people and inspires the joy of reading. This year the theme is “Reading is a Superpower.” Check Dowdell.org and the library’s social media pages for fun activities for young readers as well as book recommendations.
Ms. Maryanne delights us with a new storytime this month all about gardening. Come along and listen and watch while she reads a story about the surprises of growing a garden. She would also love to see how your Mother’s Day flower craft from April is growing. Please send in a picture of your flower to comments@dowdell.org. You can find all our virtual programs on YouTube by searching Sadie Pope Dowdell Library or find links on our website, Dowdell.org.
We have new extended hours! Every Monday we will open at 10 am! Feel free to stop in to grab a book, make copies, send a fax, or use one of our computers. While you are here, check out our virtual program schedule or learn about our vast library of online resources! As we steadily move towards more regular hours, safety is still our number one concern. We base our operating decisions on the CDC’s and our State guidelines, as well as approval from our Library Board of Directors. To ensure your safety, all our services are staff-assisted. Computers may be used for one hour and are disinfected after each use. We can’t wait to say HI!
Sign up to take a free virtual health workshop through the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The hospital will offer several classes in May, including Stroke Prevention a three-part mini-series, Stretch it! A mobility workshop, Stress Reduction, Keys to Reducing Chronic Inflammation and Never Ignore Your Feet! The one-hour sessions will start at 1:00 pm, and you must be pre-registered. For more information, visit Dowdell.org or to pre-register, please email kathleen.johnson@rwjbh.org.
