SOUTH AMBOY – To those that knew him the loss of Donald Rzepka in May of this year was felt deeply in South Amboy. As the long-time owner of Al’s Auto Body Don was routinely engaged in quiet philanthropy for many years to the benefit of many fraternal and civic organizations in the city and surrounding communities.
Continuing that spirit his daughter Jill donated a four-wheel drive wrecker to the City of South Amboy in his memory.
“Small communities like ours certainly have wish list items they would like to acquire. And while highly desirable, the prospects of our being able to purchase a tow truck, much less one equipped with four-wheel drive was just not a realistic possibility”, said Mayor Fred Henry. “This will be a welcome addition to our Public Works fleet and we are grateful to the Rzepka family for their continued generosity.”
According to City Administrator Glenn Skarzynski the vehicle will be assigned to the Public Works Department mechanics and will enable them to handle additional tasks and road repairs “in house.”
“This unexpected gift is a welcome addition to our fleet,” said Skarzynski.
Once integrated into their fleet the City plans to add a graphic to the truck in memory of Don and acknowledging the generosity of the Rzepka family.
