Found this postcard that my father saved. When I was a kid we used to walk along the Penn. Railroad Tracks to Roosevelt Park. Old Soldiers Home (As we called it near the Lake.) Now called N.J. Veterans Memorial Home (Note of Interest). One day we went over to where that guy is sitting. He was a resident & former Pro Baseball Umpire. Our Field was night next to the Railroad Tracks. In the hat summers, we played all over games in the morning. We needed an Umpire one morning to our surprise out of Centerfield came this Veteran, a former Ump. He showed up every morning at 10 a.m. He was great. We called him Quick Talk because he called the balls and strikes so fast. One morning he did not come. To this day I’ll always wonder what happened to him. My father was a WWI Vet so this picture has to be in the 1930’s.
Happy New Year! & Take care.
