Habit for Humanity House Topic of Discussion at Council Meeting

By Katherine Massopust—

PERTH AMBOY – The property on 440 Lawrie Street which is owned by the Housing Authority became a topic of discussion at the 8/14/13 City Council Meeting. The property was fixed by the Morris County Habitat for Humanity. Resident Stanley Sierakowski wanted to know who makes the decision on whom gets this house and why the Morris County Habitat for Humanity was asked instead of the Middlesex County Habitat for Humanity.

Housing Authority Chair Dorothy Daniel states, “The Housing Authority makes that decision. As far as the property on Lawrie Street, there is a Middlesex County Habitat for Humanity in name only. The Morris County Habitat for Humanity was good enough to engage in partners with us in this venture. The Perth Amboy Housing Authority will decide who will become the homeowner. It will be done by lottery. An independent party will pick it.”
