Rezoning of Front Street Discussed – Caucus 8/12/13

Business Administrator Greg Fehrenbach

PERTH AMBOY – Business Administrator Greg Fehrenbach presented a report to the Council in reference to what may have to be done to the Waterfront. Front Street specifically was mentioned for rezoning because of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. There is a possibility of eliminating some of the residential property south of Gordon Street, Bayview Park to the Raritan Yacht Club.

The discussion was whether or not to make this area all commercial property. The Planning Board and Redevelopment Advisory Committee made this suggestion. Presently there are about four to five residential houses on that strip.

Councilman Bill Petrick

Fehrenbach said that the City may have to raise buildings because of a stature change. Governor Christie preempted municipal flood maps. The FEMA flood maps will be finalized in a few months pending property owner’s appeals.

Councilman Bill Petrick spoke in reference to raising buildings and said, “You can’t block the views of residents on Water Street.”
