PASOS Discussed at Board of Education Meeting

PERTH AMBOY – There was an addendum on the agenda to allow PASOS (Pan-American School of Sports) to hold its First Annual 5K Turkey Run at Water’s Stadium. The event is a race, which youths ages 14 to 18 and adults ages 19 and up can participate in. The winners will receive turkeys.

Vice President Ken Puccio stated that the issues brought up in the Council Meeting (Accusations that PASOS has many events which disrupt the neighborhood near Wisteria Avenue) had nothing to do with the Board of Education. PASOS was requesting the use of Water’s Stadium for their event. There would be no alcohol at this event. “This has nothing to do with the City Council Meeting.”

PASOS representative Fransisco Casado spoke about the organization, “The money raised by their events help kids utilize the best way to attend college.”

Resident Stanley Sierakowski stated that the Board should take a look at the Caucus and Council Meetings. “These are not children’s programs. They are party generated. The Council states that it was misled (by PASOS). They are turning St. Demetrios into a wedding hall from 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. They are alcohol driven. It’s all politics turning a church to a wedding hall.”

PASOS representative Waldo Miranda defended the organization. “You are speaking without facts. The resolution (referring to the 11/20/13 Council Meeting) was not approved or denied. We have weddings. That money is utilized for volleyball and programs .”
