My name is Charles Simmons, I am Bernice Marshall’s fiancé. I was misquoted in the latest edition of your newspaper.

You quoted me addressing Perth Amboy School Board President O. Gonzalez at the last board meeting. Your article says I told Ms. Gonzalez that she called Bernice at home to discuss her job.

In reality I told Ms. Gonzalez that she called our home to instruct Bernice to report to a meeting with her and other school board members. What I did not mention was that the Board members and Vivian Rodriguez (who was also there) met with Bernice at Isabel Machado’s office and wanted her to help them get Dr J. Caffrey fired, and put Vivian Rodriguez in her place.

They pressured Bernice but she refused to cooperate because she wanted to stay neutral. They were upset with her. That is the real reason they abolished her job. The Perth Amboy School board committed countless unethical acts. I hope a higher authority investigates all allegations against the board and interim superintendent.
