Good morning. I am writing regarding the Dominican Festival held in Perth Amboy this past Sunday. It was a lovely event for family to come enjoy and take pride in the Dominican heritage. I really enjoyed the food, the music, and the traditions.
However, I was disappointed at the contest in which dancers bent over and shaked their backsides on stage. I do not believe this is an accurate portrayal of how the Dominican culture reveres women. I was shocked that this was happening at a family event where children were everywhere watching.
I politely request that someone please speak to the organizers of this event so that there is more respectful dancing, such as bachata or tipico, at future festivals specifically representing a cultural group. At the Puerto Rican festival there was a salsa dancer, for example, which was in excellent taste and appropriate for the occasion.
If you could please forward this to the right party I would appreciate it. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Best regards,
Andrea Del Priore
