Superintendent Labbe went too far in cancelling the rest of the Sayreville football season. A game or two would have been enough! But he labelled the whole team guilty without further investigation. He assumed a few rotten apples had contaminated the whole barrel of teenage players. It is hard to believe that the rest of the team was involved. This has placed an unfair on the decent, clean and responsible teammates and has jeopardized their futures. And, of course, the community has been greatly smeared and damaged. The shyster lawyers, like hungry wolves, are licking their chops!
When I grew up in Perth Amboy before WWII we were confronted with bullies and hazers. Most of us in the northern section of town were first generation Americans. We were harassed and bullied in various derogatory ways. We were taught by our fathers to ignore them by walking away or fighting them. I personally fought a few bullies. When I came home with a bloody nose or black eye Mom would commiserate with me and tenderly patch me up. Pop would say, “Very good, my dear son, I am proud of you! You did great in standing up and fighting the SOB! He won’t pick on you anymore!” This kind of training and background turned out to be invaluable in fighting and defeating the international bullies in Europe and the Pacific. We are making a mountain out of a molehill in Sayreville. We cannot fight our kid’s battles for them. They have to learn to fight for themselves! As we did not so many years ago!
Thank you for your courtesies.
Very truly yours,
