Why School Shootings Today?
Friday’s Opinion page had a letter that claimed the Constitution did not define the word “arms”. The authors of the Second Amendment used the widest possible definition for this right. It was the attempt to confiscate guns that caused the battle of Concord and Lexington, then the Revolutionary War. Did someone sleep during their history course?
An unnamed writer supported a Sporting Goods corporation that banned sales to those under 21 years. Blaming everyone under 21 because of one 19-year old’s crime is emotional and irrational. If a 19-year-old driver did wrong should all those under 21 years be punished? Collective guilt is foolish.
These proposals ignore the lack of medical care needed for these at-risk people. Could Medicare for those under 21 have treated their problems? Canada has a higher rate of firearms ownership than the US; does its National Health Care prevent such shootings?
To claim the resistance to “gun control” (really gun prohibition) is based on greed is nonsense. Should everyone’s rights be abolished because of one person’s crimes? The Bill of Rights was passed to preserve people’s natural rights. How many relate these crimes to the economic problems of the last decades?

Free Flights to Cuba
President Trump just signed an Executive Order – 2018 Amendment to The Manual for Courts-Martial, United States issued March 1, 2018. Chapter 47 of the title 10, United States Code (Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), 10 USC, 801-946).
Why is he doing this? There’s lot of military flights going to Cuba – the so-called Government Express! They only serve bottled water and peanuts. Can you guess why?

Sex Education
I read with interest the “City of Perth Amboy Celebrates Women’s History Month” in the March 7, 2018 edition of The Amboy Guardian.
In the article, Neeti Misra, MD, Director of Women’s Health Center, Hackensack Meridian, Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy is quoted. She says that “Girls are becoming sexually active younger and younger. It’s important to get the HPV Vaccination for young adults: male and female.” She also advocates artificial birth control for them.
Exactly how young does Dr. Misra expect to prepare adolescents for the hazards of sexual intimacy? At twelve years of age? Ten-years of age? Are we soon going to be “educating” kindergarteners about sex education? What ever happened to telling youngsters that chastity is the best practice? A sexual encounter has not only dire physical consequences, but emotional ones, as well.
Parents and educators should promote chastity for our children and teenagers. You would then not need vaccinations and precautions against sexually transmitted diseases. We would then have the return of innocence to our children which is so lacking today. Promoting safe and responsible sex within the state of marriage is the best way to protect our youngsters as well as adults. If we returned to this type of morality, perhaps girls and women would not be sex objects to be used and discarded as we see in the media and in daily life.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, it’s been found that the effects of continuously raised estrogen levels in the female body due to taking birth controls pills may include the potential risk of breast cancer, potential increased risk of blood clots, heart attack and stroke, increased blood pressure, symptoms of depression and anxiety, and other risks. Some other methods of artificial birth control also have harmful side effects. The health of women is clearly at risk.
Misra also advises pregnant women to have genetic testing. However, chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis have a small risk of miscarriage. And what if a potential birth defect is detected? Many choose abortion in that case, tragically ending the life of their child. We are becoming a nation that wants only the fittest specimens, a master race that does not let the vulnerable who also have God-given value survive.
