Outside FERC meeting, ‘open mic’ rally opposing the NESE pipeline project

OLD BRIDGE – On the heels of New York’s rejection of this unnecessary and dangerous pipeline proposal, New Jersey elected representatives, municipal officials, homeowners, citizens groups and conservation leaders will be joining the public at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)’s April 25 public comment session.

WHO: Impacted families from across the state, Food & Water Watch, NY/NJ Baykeeper, Surfrider Foundation, Madison Park Homeowners Association, New Jersey Sierra Club, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters, Clean Ocean Action, and many more.

WHAT: A public ‘open mic’ rally before the FERC public comment session

Background: NY/NJ Baykeeper and Food & Water Watch invite members of the media to this ‘open mic’ event where the public will discuss their concerns with the pipeline and FERC’s flawed review process. Instead of speaking in front of an audience at the FERC meetings,  they are forced to provide their comments one-on-one to an agency stenographer. The ‘open mic’ rally will give the public an opportunity to deliver their remarks in an open forum.

The meetings are an opportunity for the public to provide FERC with comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) in conjunction with plans by Williams Transco. to build the NESE gas pipeline across three states from Pennsylvania, through New Jersey, under Raritan Bay, and into New York.
