Cinco de Mayo Celebration Coming Up

Perth Amboy to Host a Fabulous Cinco de Mayo Celebration Featuring Mexican Cuisine, Music, Dancing, and Luchadores Wrestling

PERTH AMBOY − On Cinco de Mayo, Perth Amboy is creating a fun and joyous Mexican-American celebration. Simply stroll along New Brunswick Avenue, between Smith and Jefferson streets, to sample the freshest and tastiest tacos, view Sol Azteca dancers in amazing customs and listen to lively music played by Mariachis. Guests can enjoy cool refreshing beverages while shopping for Mexican artworks, crafts and clothes.

Admission to the Cinco de Mayo celebration is free and the activities begin at noon and continue to 6 PM.

The exciting highlight of Perth Amboy’s Cinco de Mayo event will be a series of high-flying, professional wrestling presentations featuring masked Luchadores. An open-air wrestling ring will be placed on the avenue so everyone can enjoy wrestling extravaganza.

Perth Amboy, the City’s Business Improvement District (BID) and the Office of Economic and Community Development have joined forces to present an exceptional Cinco de Mayo experience for everyone. Special activities for children include face painting as well as arts and crafts projects. 

Each person who comes to the Cinco de Mayo celebration can enjoy a variety of Mexican cuisine, beverages and refreshments. The participating restaurants, Taqueria and other food purveyors include the following: 

• Cazadores Mexican Restaurants, 236 New Brunswick Ave.

• De Lo Mio Mexican and Dominican Restaurant, 216 Hall Ave.

• Hollywood Mexican Restaurant, 108 Smith Street

• Maria and Diego Taqueria, (Owners of Paella Party, LLC)

•Tropical Cheese, 450 Fayette Street

• Maria Piragua Cart, Corner of Madison and Jefferson Streets

• Rico Taco Mexican Restaurant, 321 Madison Ave.

•Tierra Azteca Mexican Restaurant, 134 Smith Street

As the celebration continues, emcee David Luna will fill the downtown environment with the rhythms and sounds of live, Mexican music. The expectation is that people will be dancing in the street.

Local merchants, Mexican craft dealers, and healthcare advisors are supporting the celebration, and people are encouraged to stop by their tables. Here are some of the participants:

Residents and visitors will find plenty of off-street parking in the City’s Jefferson Street deck.
