PERTH AMBOY – The Learning Empowerment Achievement Foundation (LEAF), celebrated their 6th Annual Red Carpet Gala on April 28, 2018 at The Grand Lake Chateau in Woodbridge. Approximately three hundred guests attended.  The foundation awards scholarships to graduating students of the Perth Amboy Schools and Programs of all ages pursing post-secondary education every year. Through generous sponsorships by corporations, local business, community partners, and families the foundation presented 15 graduating students with scholarships. This year’s Scholarship Recipients were the following : Danielle Nicoletti-Middlesex County Vocational School, Piero Coronado-Middlesex County Vocational School, Saidy Cedano-Academy for Urban Leadership, Yisel Duran-Academy for Urban Leadership, Alice Resituyo-Academy for Urban Leadership, Jimena Almidon Acevedo-Academy for Urban Leadership, Kayveth Santos-Personalized Learning Program, Jose Pereyra-Perth Amboy Public High School, Ana Gutierrez-Perth Amboy Public High School, Joshua Cabezudo-Perth Amboy Public High School, Gianna Tapia-Perth Amboy Public High School, Crismary Rodriquez-Perth Amboy Public High School, Jenisty Colon-Perth Amboy Public High School, Camilia Abreu-Perth Amboy Public High School, and Natalia Dunyak– Perth Amboy Public High School.

Also that evening LEAF honored individuals who have contributed to the success of various programs in the community. This year we honored  nine members for their commitment, dedication and involvement, they are the following;  Reinaldo Cruz-New Jersey State Trooper,  “Outstanding Mentor Award”, Monsignor John Gordon-Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Perth Amboy, NJ,  “Humanitarian Award”, Rosa Napoles-Teacher Assistance in Ignacio Cruz in Perth Amboy, NJ, “Outstanding Volunteer Award”, Noelia Colon-Public Relations Officer for the city of Perth Amboy, NJ, “Community Ambassador Award”, Enrique Hernandez-Owner of Petra Best Reality, “Entrepreneur Award”, Michael Heidelberg-Director of Curriculum and Instruction of Public Schools in Perth Amboy, NJ,  “Educator Award”,  Alex Perez- Teacher Assistance in Perth Amboy High School and Head Baseball Coach in Perth Amboy, NJ, “Perth Amboy Role Model Award”, Sousan Ortega (Target)-Group Vice President, “Corporate  Leadership Award”, and Bienvenida Valentin-Zumba Instructor in the Education Center Evening Program and at the Saturday Morning Family School for the past ten years, “Special Recognition Award”.

The Learning Achievement Empowerment Foundation’s mission is to support and offer scholarships and resources to the student population enrolled in the Perth Amboy School System servicing all Middlesex County Communities. A diverse student population, participating in various High School Diploma programs in a non-traditional educational setting will be provided with a variety of opportunities to further student educational goals.
