Officer Kyle L. Savoia Saves Man from Being Struck by Train on July 19, 2018

PERTH AMBOY, New Jersey (July 24, 2018) – Officer Kyle L. Savoia’s body camera captures footage of his life saving actions on Thursday, July 19, 2018, as he saved a man who was just moments away from being struck by a moving train.

Below is a brief description of what took place:

· Incident took place on 7/19/18 at 8:19 a.m. (as shown on the video)

· Officer (Patrolman) Savoia, was dispatched to check on the welfare of someone on the tracks

· Upon arrival, a bystander pointed out a man laying down on the North bound tracks approximately 200 yards South from the train station’s platform. Officer Savoia observe the oncoming train on the North bound track where a man was laying facedown. He then stared to run towards the train and as he was getting closer used verbal commands to alert the man. He began to also signal at the train to stop, as he waved his arms.

· The train was alerted and began to slow down. As Officer Savoia approached the man, the man jumped out of the way of the train just prior to being struck.

·The man was transported to Raritan Bay Medical Center for further treatment.  

“As police officers, our job is to make quick decisions in difficult situations and to act on them. At the end of the day, all that matters is everyone gets home safe. Also at such an early stage of my career, to be able to make an impactful difference in a person’s life is incredible and makes me love what I do every day,” said Officer Kyle L. Savoia.

Officer Kyle Savoia was sworn in on January 18, 2018. His father, Sgt. Kevin Savoia Sr. who passed away in 2016 served as a Perth Amboy police officer for over 28 years.
