30 Ways to Fight Hunger In September 2018

Press Release

MIDDLESEX COUNTY – September is Hunger Action Month, and Feeding Middlesex County partnering with MCFOODS, the Middlesex County food bank, is offering a September calendar with specific tasks individuals can complete to fight local hunger.  Day by day, there are simple and creative ways to make a difference.

Some examples are “Tomato Thursday” when you can donate sauce and pasta to MCFOODS; participating in East Brunswick Day on September 23rd at the Community Arts Center to donate food to MCFOODS; and plan your very own food drive.

MCFOODS coordinator Jennifer Apostol commented “There are so many things everyone can do to help those who go hungry here in Middlesex County where 1 in 7 residents are food insecure.  This calendar can serve as a catalyst for the kinds of tasks people can take on in order to fight hunger.”

Food donations are accepted in a variety of places on a regular basis.  For example, libraries in East Brunswick, Edison, Metuchen, Milltown, Monroe, North Brunswick, Perth Amboy, Piscataway, Plainsboro, South Amboy, South Brunswick, South Plainfield, Spotswood and Woodbridge accept items year round.  Plays in the Park in Roosevelt Park now accepts food and monetary donations at performances.  A number of the active adult communities in Monroe Township run food drives during October each year.  And over 100 schools in the county participate in the annual school food drive in the spring.
