New Studies on Gun Violence
An article said about 36,000 Americans each year are killed by firearm injuries but doesn’t admit this number was 15,000 when the 1968 Gun Control Act was passed. How effective was this law that restricted people’s rights?
Mass shootings were rare before the 1980’s until SSRI drugs (like Prozac) were first prescribed. Is there a connection? The First Amendment says everyone has a right to speak out. The correct question is not “staying in your lane” but whether some people know the limits of their competence. Asking for new studies implies they want to ignore past history.
The laws are a legal and political question and not only a medical question. A high velocity bullet does more damage that a low velocity bullet, you don’t need to waste tax dollars in studying what is already known. Maybe they should study the effects of gun control on violence, comparing Chicago to rural areas that have more guns and less crime? Or is this another effect of the economy?
